New Release | Chiaroscuro – The Mouse and the Candle

Sabine

Found this pic by chance on Pinterest a few weeks after writing the book. Almost a perfect match for Sabine, the child vampire.

The day is almost here! My vampire novel, Chiaroscuro, releases tomorrow! (July 18).

Read the first three chapters free on the preview page.

ChiaroscuroGod’s will be done.

After eleven years as a priest living by these words, Father Antonio Molinari never imagined who would teach his strongest lesson of faith―a vampire.

Part of a secret order within the Vatican, he is sent to investigate and debunk supernatural events. A case of possession brings him to the French countryside, where two local clergy offer him the chance of a lifetime. They claim to have captured a vampire, and beg his expertise in helping them study the fiend.

When their monster turns out to be a little girl, cursed to spend eternity hiding from the sun, he cannot bring himself to destroy her. The priests, mistaking his compassion for diabolism, panic, and his efforts to protect an innocent child prove fatal.

He awakes caught between light and darkness.

Hunted by the Church he once served as well as the fiends he once destroyed, Father Molinari clings to the faith there is still room for him in God’s plan.

But God is quiet, and the darkness tempting.

The book is available for preorder on Amazon: https://amzn.com/B01HQESDW4

July 2016

2016-06-23 08.48.44-2

Greetings all.

Again, been awhile since I had the time to put up a blog post… quite busy.

At the end of June (22-27) I was in Nashville at the Utopia con, meeting a whole bunch of fun people – authors, readers, bloggers, cover artists, etc. The 13-hour car ride I could maybe do without, but the con itself was a lot of fun. (Coming from someone who generally avoids disruptions to the usual routine, I suppose that says a lot that I’d be up for doing it again.)

I also got to meet some fellow Curiosity Quills authors – Ayden Morgen, Eliza Tilton, and Jadah McCoy (though Jadah is like a coalescence of energy in human form – she didn’t spend a lot of time at the table.)

2016-06-20 12.54.14

I did the ride in one shot both coming and going… (this photo is somewhere in Virginia along I-81.) It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, but still… if not for lugging boxes of books, perhaps flying would be better despite the cost.

Anyway – in other news – we’re coming up on July 18th, and the release of my vampire novel, Chiaroscuro – The Mouse and the Candle. We’re doing a release party (online event) on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/events/1191383477559548/ – that all are welcome to pop in.

We have a bunch of prizes to give away during the event, including two $10 amazon gift cards, two signed copies of Chiaroscuro, 3 of my ebooks, and a list of other ebooks generously donated by their respective authors:

Escape from Witchwood Hollow – Jori Mierek
Treasure Darkly – Jori Mierek
Cogling – Jori Mierek
Without Bloodshed – Matthew Graybosch
Five Out of the Dark – Holli Lloyd Anderson
Winner’s Pick of (How to Date Dead Guys / How to Ditch Dead Guys / Dead Girl Running) – Ann Noser
The Artful – Wilbert Stanton
Love In the First Degree Anthology – Clare Dugmore & Others
Broken Branch Falls – Tara Robinson
Broken Forest – Eliza Tilton
The Unquiet Dead – Chris Dubecki
Goat Children – Jori Mierek
Victorian – Jori Mierek
Gears of Brass Anthology – Jori Mierek & Others
The Undead – Linda Coy Elmore

In addition to the release, Curiosity Quills is putting Prophet of the Badlands (The Awakened series book 1) on sale for .99 (ebook only) on July 23 and 24.

I’m busily working on edits for book 4 in that series (Daughter of Ash) now.

Anyway, I’ll stop rambling for now. Have a great weekend!

New Release | Grey Ronin

Greetings all!

cover2500

I am feeling quite excited at the moment! It’s been a quiet seven months since my last novel came out, and today is finally the day the lull breaks. Grey Ronin, the third book in the Awakened series, is now available on Amazon.

The Awakened series introduced Althea in Prophet of the Badlands, and continued with Anna in Archon’s Queen. Grey Ronin brings Mamoru Saito, a samurai in the service of Matsushita Electronics Corporation, into the fray. He does not heal like Althea, nor does he command electricity like Anna. He possesses two gifts, technokinesis which allows him to exert a degree of control (in fact mentally embody) complex machines and cyberspace, and physical kinetics, which makes him as strong and fast as a doll for brief periods.

For most of his adult life, Mamoru has focused primarily on one thing: his honor. When that honor is questioned by powers outside the narrow scope of his understanding, he decides to trust a message from his dead mentor. Rather than blindly commit seppuku as ordered, he sets off to find out who tricked his beloved warlord, and prove the lie.

The first five books of the series each follow a different member of the Awakened, psionics far and away more powerful than “ordinary” psionics. They all have their own demons to contend with as well as enemies both mortal and supernatural that conspire to use them.

Book six includes all five of the characters from the first books in an interleaving POV as their individual issues catch up to them while Archon’s plan gets forced into high gear, and an adversary beyond the understanding and belief of many seeks to use them all to further its power.

The Awakened Series

1 – Prophet of the Badlands

2 – Archon’s Queen

3 – Grey Ronin

4 – Daughter of Ash (Release Mar 06 2017)

5 – Zero Rogue (Release Jan 08 2018)

6 – Angel Descended (Release Aug 13 2018)

Cover Reveal | Grey Ronin – Awakened #3

Greetings all!

I am thrilled to finally be able to share the cover for Grey Ronin, book 3 of the Awakened series! The book is scheduled for a 5/23 release.

The Awakened series is a somewhat nonstandard approach to a series in that the first five (of six) books focus on a different primary character, and all their stories come together in book 6.

Grey Ronin follows Mamoru Saito, a samurai in service of the Matsushita Electronics Corporation as he discovers his abilities over technology and his physical body aren’t ‘ancient magic.’ As much as he cannot accept it, he is of the Awakened.

Update – March 2016

pen

Well, it’s been awhile since I’ve posted. Figure it’s about time I took a few minutes from the pile of things needing doing.

As you may have noticed from the new landing page updates (all the way at the bottom) I’ve been quite busy as of late. Two of my novels (One More Run and Hand of Raziel) came back from the proofreader. Curiosity Quills has signed two more – Division Zero: Guardian (#4) and The Redeemed (Roadhouse Chronicles #2).

I’ve also completed drafting the second novel in the Tales of Widowswood series (Book one is Emma and the Banderwigh). Book two – Emma and the Silk Thieves, is on its way to CQ for consideration.

On top of the above, I’ve got a steady influx of edits and proofreads (on other peoples’ stuff) coming in.

2016 is going to be an exciting year release wise, with six of my novels coming out, starting with Grey Ronin (The Awakened #3) in May. For anyone who’d like to keep informed of releases, I’d appreciate it if you’d check out my Amazon author page and click follow. That way, you’ll get notifications whenever a new release hits.

Also, keep an eye out for the Actuator 2.5 anthology set in the world created by James Wymore and Aiden James. (I’m not sure of the exact release date, but I believe it is this year. My short story, The Ruin of Man is one of nine stories set in a world split apart into multiple realities. Chris Malidore was kind enough to create this title art for me:

RuinsOfMan_final2

I’ll soon be posting an interview with author Jason King (as soon as he gets it back to me) as well. I recently had the pleasure of writing a short story for an anthology he’s putting together in his Valcoria world.

In other exciting news, I will be attending this year’s UtopYA con in Memphis from June 22-27, signing copies of The Summer the World Ended, Caller 107, and probably Emma and the Banderwigh as well.

There are a few read-and-review slots left for Division Zero 2: Lex De Mortuis and Division Zero 3: Thrall. If anyone (who has already read book one) is interested in receiving a free ebook in exchange for an honest review posted on Amazon, please contact me via email mcox2112 @ gmail.

Anyway, suppose I’ll stop rambling for now and wander back to the editor’s chair.
